I was about to finish writing this WIP then computer freezed. I was p!ssed but Firefox saved everthing, love it.

Bought this old kit for 10USD hehe. along, some paints for Engage SR1,SR3
Posted Image

It's really old the manual and decal have turned yellow. I'm sticking it to the window, see if UV can clean that yellow off.
Posted Image

Except for PC joints, all parts are molded in orange, there are flash and all sort of old tooling issues.
Posted Image

The head is in 2 pieces, seamline right in the middle, and the sculpture on top is based on early lineart. might need to re sculpt it.
Posted Image
Posted Image

The end of the Buster Launcher looks like a peg or left over from the sprue, you could almost find a PC piece that could fit right on it. Needs re shape.
Posted Image

The gap in the legs. wow. base on the lineart there are panel line in the middle of the leg, I might put a 0.3mm line in there and fill the gap in the foot armor.
Posted Image

Without mod this is as furthest apart as possible for the legs with both feet touching the ground, a double ball joint is needed.
Posted Image

The legs are designed to bend almost 90 but in fact the tooling is so bad it can only do 20.
Posted Image

mod-ed the joints base on other 1/100 kits
Posted Image

and thinned some parts. Hopefully it can do the couching pose
Posted Image

Left: LED Mirage arm, Right: KOG arm, the PC joint is interchangeable. KOG's arms are so thick and ugly, I'm gonna copy that LED arm to the kOG.
Posted Image

New can of Silicone.
Posted Image

exceed resin are used to cast hands for gunpla. no waste
Posted Image

Posted Image

Implanting double ball joint to the foot. the joints are too long, I cut those in half, drilled a metal rod in, glued them back together. It was difficult to hold the ball when drilling, I used my teeth to hold them, I almost swallowed a ball! LOL swallow a ball.
Posted Image

Some plastic around the joints that are blocking the movement is simply cut away. Normally I don't do that.
Posted Image

A bit leaned backward for now, not a big deal if you see it like a L-Gaim
Posted Image
Posted Image

Filling the hollow shoulder armors.
Posted Image

Added details and reshaped the side knee armors.
Posted Image

Added a panel line in the middle of the leg. Double ball joints are still too long, re-did it
Posted Image

Now knee armors move with the knee while bending.
Posted Image

need to fill in the blank.

This is going to be a fanastic WIP, I was particularly interested to see how you modified the foot joint.

I've a feeling I'm going to learn lots of new techniques watching you work. Already looking forward to your next update.

You've really been busy!

A lot of modifications, hehe, you're really going all out on the guy, hehe. I'll certainly pick up a few ideas here as how to tackle the older kits XD

Are you adding all the articulation so it can do it's signature pose with the buster launcher?

excellent work on improving the leg articulation :highfive:
the way you've adapted the knee pieces is especially impressive (^_____^)
will help give me ideas for when I go to make my Patraqushe (^______^)

@Aries
I always found it funny when they said in the Anime that
Lachesis Mortar Head had a " miniature " Buster Launcher (^_____^) ha ha
..... it's bigger than a sky scraper :P ....... what's a " medium " Buster Launcher look like ??? (^____^) ha ha

Ever the obvious...

I love to read your WIP's Ingenhk! Didn't realize these kits needed so much work.

@iP: I always thought they were comparing it to the cannons on the ships.

Newer kit like the Engage SR1, SR3 even the LED mirage shouldn't be this bad.
I tried to keep it short to explain what happened in each pic, it could've been much longer, took me 2 hours already.

Great modifications! Are these Yellow submarine ball-joints?

The head seam-line looks like a nightmare to fill!
Comparing it to the line-art I find the same lines and some more. Why do you want to re-sculpt it?

Indeed very informative!

yes those are yellow submarine joints. Very stiff, too stiff in this case.

the head is base on that early line art, newer version has an obvious penis, pudendum and some semen on it.

IP > The 1/144 Patraqushe should have this on the head, check yours....
do you know. there is a 2nd face on the back of the head. I did not know this before I built the kit.
Also the sword handles are shaped like 'the thingy'...
There might be more 'easter eggs' to be found from this thing.

follow this link, the 2nd pic shows the 2nd face

I had already filled the gap in the foot guards
Posted Image

But then, I decided to get rid of it, and use the LEDs copy. Just that there is a large hole on the back exposing the ball joint.

nice new foot guards (O_____O)

by the way, how difficult is it to make those resin casts you make (O _o) ?????
I've been considering trying them out :) ( saves sculpting things twice (^____^) ha ha )

It could be much more easier if you make a mold for each piece instead of like me, mold 2 or more parts in one mold, that way it is difficult to plan the 'runner', the channel for releasing the air that got trapped inside and it'd be difficult to balance the weight/pressure(by gravity). Many of my casts has air bubble or broken corner, as long as most of the details are presented, I'll just use those pieces.

The UV-components of the sunlight 'splits' the color molecules. That's what I'd say as a physicist. It's bleaching!

But I don't know why it turns yellow...where are the chemists?

But this trick is awesome! Thanks for showing! I just hope I won't forget.

Great progress! :castlerock:

the shape of this area is different from other KOG models. I just improvised
Posted Image

There shall be more wip within days

Not a wip, just distantly related, I've collected all 3 HG Heavy Metal the other day.
