Isn't this simply an issue for the mods? I mean, you have to read the rules when you join, don't you? After that point, the mods should lock and later delete duplicate threads; maybe warn the user as well, depending on how stupid a mistake it was. No-one reads stickies, especially stickies about rules. I find the best way to get people to read the rules is have one of those timers on the rule page when you're registering; it won't let you continue with registration until a minute or two has passed. I've read rules during those things because I had nothing else to do, and I'd assume others would do the same. Otherwise, don't overly focus on this. If it's in the rules, the ball's in the mods' court after that. |

Yea, sure they do. Just like everyone reads every word of the Terms of Service when installing software, reading every word of the warranty when purchasing a product, read warning labels on products, etc. |

@ziljin I mean that the mods are well within their rights to delete the offending threads and warn the offending users straight from the off. If they don't read the rules, that's their problem. I didn't mean to imply that people actually read them; God no. |

its general forum ettiquite to not dupe post and whatnot when there is a similar thread thats not within the first 2-3 pages of a section IMO. especially in a place like GE where there isn't much activity (post wise) and topics could be belonging to people who have left the site quite awhile ago or the last post being sometime last year or something. |

It should be made a bit more clear if bumping old topics is okay or not in the rules. I've been to forums where necro-posting is deemed okay, and others where necro is looked down upon a lot. Last forum I was on, there would be a "oh lawd no necro!!" type of post followed by a mod's declaration of a thread lock. I think that this might cut down duplicate threads a bit, since people scared to bump might just make another thread on a whim. But, there's always going to be those members who don't read the rules, or neglect the search function to get their answer. Best that can be done is infractions or the ban hammer. (or Nukezooka lol) |

yeah I hated it when there was one forum site I went to and posted in something (That was only a few days old) and some person almost chewed my head off, what I found hypocritical was they could've PMed me that but they posted their rant in that thread (also making it bump) and other people started posting in it alittle after that, not ranting but about the topic itself so I was like WTF you yell at me and not them. So far this doesn't seem to have the necro bump anger which I like cause I think we should have people posting in them so it could stop duplicated threads. |

I can't see any major issue with bumping a thread if the topic is something you want to comment on. I'd prefer to see a bumped thread than a duplicate thread. |

Bringing a thread back from the dead is fine, as long as what your posting is relevant to the topic.. im just tired of seeing those damned dupe threads |
